Crashburn Alley Needs Your Help (and you all helped more than I could have imagined)

UPDATE (7/17): We have reached our goal!

As some pointed out, this original post did not have a goal and frankly we could have done better in making this a more transparent process. The money needed to keep this site hosted an running for the next year was $479.88. In under two days you all have donated $761.22. I am incredibly blown away by your generosity and the support we received. I want to thank all of you so much.

You can continue to donate to the upkeep of the site, for now all overages are going towards next year and making sure we can keep this place going for many years to come.

Hi all,

I have always been a fan of what Crashburn Alley is as a site, and since taking over I have found working with this group of writers to be an amazing experience. As most of you know, there is little money in writing about sports. Since leaving the site, Bill Baer has generously paid to keep this site up and running. Declining ad revenue has made this a losing proposition for him over the past few years. In order to keep this site running we need your help.

Based on the number of you who read this site, it would only take everyone donating $1 to pay to keep this site up for the next year. You can donate here. Any amount of help is appreciated.

Donating is not the only way you can help out here. Right now the writing core is Tim, Michael, and myself, with contributions from Brad and Adam when time allows them to write about this depressing baseball team. If you think you have a unique voice that would fit into what we write about here on Crashburn, please reach out to me. Additionally, if you would like to advertise here, please reach out to me and we can work through the details.

Our goal continues to be to bring you high level analysis coupled with those bits of quirk and absurdity that have become the hallmark of writing here.

Crashburn Alley has been a big part of the Phillies community, and the writing staff here is committed to continuing that into the future.

Thank you all for your past and hopefully continuing support of this site and community.

Matt Winkelman

Managing Editor, Crashburn Alley

I’m happy to contribute (and more than $1), but I think you might have more success if you set up a Gofundme or Kickstarter page, rather than a straight Paypal to Bill Baer. That way there’s a little more explanation about how much you’re seeking to raise and how close you are to the goal, and also you can set up a suggested donation, etc. And then we can also know when you achieve the goal and celebrate accordingly!

… or a Patreon. These options provide transparency.

has a gofundme or kickstarter page been set up yet to anyone’s knowledge?

Hey there. I went ahead and kicked in $10 via Paypal, even though you already met the goal, in order to help with ongoing expenses. I do think that you might think about in the future doing a pledge drive of sorts, maybe during Spring Training or something, using a Kickstarter page or something similar. Just a thought!

Hey Matt- does it make any sense to combine efforts with another blog like Phillies Nation?

Matt, shoot me an email when you get a chance. I work for a sporting apparel company and might have some interest in doing an ad on the site!

Happy to help. I am an older guy and don’t use those methods for payment. If you send me an address i can send a check.

Like Larry B, I’m an old timer who prefers cash or checks. Please post an address.

Thanks for all you guys do. Happy to pay through PayPal – way better than Patreon taking a 5% cut.

Is there some way to set up an annual payment that automatically pulls from my checking account? With such modest needs, there’s no reason you all should be paying out of pocket when I and so many others (I assume) visit several times a week.

How did the total get to the 88 cents part?

12 cents of every dollar goes towards signing a free agent outfielder who has had 2 good months in his entire career

    Matt

That’s great. I never got your address though. Since I don’t do PayPal and perhaps others don’t as well, it may help to provide an alternative for donations.
