Pat Burrell Can Still Hit Dingers

The Giants broadcast showed a video of former Phillie Pat Burrell taking some casual batting practice before last night’s game against the Diamondbacks. Apparently, Burrell hasn’t lost much in retirement, as he hit a home run that “went out by a bunch”, according to the telecast. Burrell is currently serving as a scout for the Giants.

GM Ruben Amaro surely isn’t closing the door on Burrell’s playing career just yet. If Bobby Abreu is worth a shot at 40, Burrell might be worth one at 37. I kid, of course. But Amaro isn’t.

Why not, at this point? It’ll be funny to watch, at least.

The Ruben Amaro link goes to Sr., not Jr. I don’t really care that much, I just thought you might want to know.

I’m sure Ryan Howard will still hit dingers like that when he’s gone, when it doesn’t count.

Ruben could probably use a long vacation.

My question is, why is he a scout for the giants? If he wanted to get into scouting the phils should have given him a chance.
