Grapefruit League Action Begins: Phillies vs. Blue Jays

Baseball. Phillies. Blue Jays. 1:05 PM ET. Save for a couple days in the middle of the season, we’ll have wall-to-wall baseball of some sort through October. Fasten your seatbelts, ladies and gentlemen.

We won’t be doing gamethreads here but I figure the first official Grapefruit League game deserves a post. I’ve missed baseball so much.

Jim Salisbury has the Phillies’ lineup:

Roberto Hernandez gets the start. As Matt Gelb notes, Jeff Manship, Antonio Bastardo, Brad Lincoln, Jake Diekman, Kevin Munson, and Phillippe Aumont are also scheduled to pitch.

Toronto’s Jewel 88.5 has the Jays’ lineup:

They note that former Phillie Kyle Drabek, Jeremy Jeffress, Chad Jenkins, and Todd Redmond are also scheduled to pitch.

According to the Phillies’ website, the game will be broadcast on TV on Comcast SportsNet and MLB Network, and 1210 WPHT and 94 WIP on the radio.

Brown seems to be buried in that lineup. The seven hole for your second best hitter is debatable.

Leaving aside that they’re batting Abreu ahead of Brown for some inexplicable reason, we won’t have the DH spot for most of the season, so even if this lineup holds true, Brown is expected to bat 6th, not 7th. So I wouldn’t exactly use the word “buried.”
