Looking at the Phillies’ 2014 Schedule

Major League Baseball released their 2014 schedule yesterday. The Phillies will open on the road against the Texas Rangers on March 31 and play their home opener on April 7 against the Milwaukee Brewers. They have a 10-game West coast road trip from the 18th through the 27th against the Rockies, Dodgers, and Diamondbacks.

In early May, the Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays meet up for a two-game home-and-home. Shortly thereafter, the Phillies welcome the Angels to Citizens Bank Park where we’ll get an up close and personal look at Mike Trout.

The schedule is business as usual in June and July. The Phlilies close out the first half at home against the Nationals and open up the second half on the road against the Atlanta Braves.

The Houston Astros, now in the American League in case you’re still not used to that notion, come into town August 5-7. In mid-August, the Phillies will play the Angels again for a two-game set, this time in Los Angeles as part of a five-game West coast road trip that also includes three against the San Francisco Giants. Then the Phillies go home to play the Mariners for three.

The Phillies will be on the road for most of September, starting the month with a three-game set in Atlanta followed by three in Washington against the Nationals. After a seven-game homestand against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins, they head back out to the West coast for seven more, four against the San Diego Padres and three against the Oakland Athletics. With an off-day, the Phillies head back East to play the Marlins, then wrap up the season with a three-game home series against the Braves.

From a personal standpoint, the two things that stick out to me are the relatively frequent trips out West (three; the Phillies have traveled that way twice this season), and the excitement of potentially seeing Trout in person at Citizens Bank Park. What interests you most about next season’s schedule?
