Phillies/Pirates Game Thread 4/7/12

Cliff Lee makes his 2012 debut tonight against Jeff Karstens of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Phillies eked out a 1-0 victory on Thursday behind Roy Halladay‘s trademark brilliance, holding the Pirates hitless after allowing the first two hitters to reach in the first inning. Last year, Lee finished third in Cy Young award voting behind winner Clayton Kershaw and his teammate Halladay.

The Phillies are looking for some offense as their only offense came in the seventh inning behind Carlos Ruiz and John Mayberry. Laynce Nix makes his debut at first base, replacing Ty Wigginton. It remains to be seen when Jim Thome will get his first shot, but it will not be tonight. Mayberry is back in left field against the right-handed starter.

Well LTG, that was “almost” warning track power.

Saving the closer might be the most infuriating strategy employed by ML managers.

Bill, any thoughts to maybe employ a chat app for these game chats?

Do you mean like Cover It Live? I did a couple of those last year and they didn’t draw much interest. Do you know of anything that would be better and more convenient than this?

Are you allowed to host Java servlets? If so, there are a ton of them out there you can embed into the site.

Yes, because stating the obvious is good commentating.

Gave a double, hits a batter… But let’s warm up my closer twice and have him sit in the bullpen waiting for the save opportunity that never comes…

In other news, my prediction of RAJ calling up Dom Brown because we’ll be averaging less than 3 runs a game was obviously dead wrong… I was being too generous with them 3 runs a game.
