BDD: Frank Thomas, BBWAA, and Slam Dunks
by Bill Baer on February 12th, 2010Posted in Baseball Daily Digest, MLB | Print | 1 Comment »
At Baseball Daily Digest, I explain why I don’t trust the BBWAA to make the slam dunk of an election in 2014 of Frank Thomas to baseball’s Hall of Fame.
I consider this a great opportunity for the BBWAA to fix what’s wrong — a chance for them to win back the disenfranchised, a group to which I belong. Okay, that’s a little self-centered, let me put it this way: it’s a great opportunity for the BBWAA to fix what’s wrong. Period. The case of Frank Thomas highlights a lot of the bad logic some of the writers have used and will use.

Interesting article. What should make for good discussion and public debate amongst the BBWAA has become an absolute joke. Basically, for the made-up HOF criteria you mentioned. As a fellow disenfranchisist (pretty sure that’s not a real word), I don’t think that is something they can ever really fix.
Maybe their should be a Baseball Bloggers Association that makes their own HOF. Frank Thomas is easily in, as his production speaks for itself. If a DH rule is allowed in the sport, there is no logical reason it should be held against someone who is up for HOF consideration.
I nominate Baer for the BBBA Hall of Fame chairman. I will be running for Assistant to the Regional Manager.
