As a rampant drunk at baseball games, I would certainly not appreciate this policy.

Banning booze from the clubhouse would rob us of fantastic images like Matt Stairs hitting a home run, then immediately retreating to his locker to crack open a cold one!

But in all seriousness, it's perfectly logical to ban alcohol & tobacco from clubhouses. Every other business in the real world does not permit such things on company time, so why shouldn't baseball?

Nah. Every employee in any business is an investment. Certainly would be fine to make sure that David Wells isn't pounding Jagermeister during the 7th innning stretch...but off the field?

They either get the job done or they don't. Alcohol is legal, and can be used responsibly. The substance itself isn't the problem, it's the person that abuses it.

Jim Leyland used to cup his fists around a cigarette to hide it from the TV camera, and would go through about a pack or so in the dugout during a game. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything, except we're on the subject and I thought it was funny as hell.
