I love the site. You provide terrific analysis! You are also the reason I found fangraphs.com another awesome site.

I have a couple of off topic questions for you.

    1)
What did you think of the Angels intentionally walking Alex Rodriguez in Thursday night’s game?

    2)
What did you think of pinch running for him?

    3)
    Go Phils!

Hi Patrick, thank you for the kind words.

    1. I didn’t like the intentional walk. I will paraphrase Curt Schilling who recently pointed out that the on-base percentage of a walk is 1.000 as opposed to the OBP of a ball in play, which is around .300. A-rod is much more likely to hit into an out than he is to reach base or hot a home run.

    2. I don’t disagree with pinch-running in that situation. You have to fight for that tying run, and if you lose A-Rod’s bat after scoring the tying run, so be it — the Yankees still have 7 hitters that can produce runs.

Once the phillies get their first hit off CC, the floodgates will open, they might actually sweep this.
