Crashburn Contest: Disappointment

For some reason, I got a lot of support for the idea for the DVD giveaway contest, but no one entered! Not a single e-mail.
I’ll think of something less difficult as a ploy to give ‘em away.
My apologies for the lack of content lately. It’s been a busy week, and it’s January, unarguably the most boring month of the year. And the Phils replaced Pat Burrell with Raul Ibanez, so there’s been some depression mixed in there as well. Sad blogger is sad.

Maybe this will cheer you up…
Braves Sign Derek Lowe
I’m just thrilled he’s not a Met, which I think keeps the Phils as the (marginal) favorites in the East heading into next year. There’s still hope yet!

I don’t know about the Phillies being favorites. There was a nice discussion on FanGraphs between Eric Seidman and MattS, who writes for The Good Phight, about whether or not the Phillies should be favorites. Eric said that the Mets should be favorites; Matt said the Phillies should be. Matt made some salient points and defended his stance well, but I disagree with him still.
I think the Phillies’ pitching benefited greatly from an overachieving defense. Needless to say, I’m not optimistic about the starting pitching in ‘09 aside from Cole Hamels. I’m especially pessimistic about Jamie Moyer.
As for the Lowe signing, it’s a bit much but I would have preferred that deal to the Ibanez deal, no question about it. And no one should ever doubt Scott Boras, ever. Even in a sputtering economy, he’s still finding a way to get his players overpaid.
