For the record, I did try to watch an episode of those Cavemen…and it really was THAT bad. A far cry from the commercials.

Gagne isn’t the only closer that had a rough outing. How about Matt Capps and a nice 40.50 ERA?

I’ll be nice and not remind you of Tom Gordon’s 135.00 ERA.

Yeah, they really tried to milk the Cavemen (figuratively!) and it backfired.

I notice a lot of Regular Joe fans bashing Gagne. I had a long argument with someone a couple months ago about him and he was really only bad in three of his 20+ appearances for the Red Sox, but he allowed 3+ runs in each of them so his statistics ballooned since it’s such a small sample size.

And given Gagne’s production yesterday, I’d give him a few more outings — particularly in warmer weather — before criticizing. The weather at Wrigley yesterday was unideal for pitching: cold and damp. I’d imagine Gagne couldn’t get a great grip on the ball and wasn’t getting the movement he needed.

Good point about his use of “seemingly.” George W. Bush is seemingly ignorant. Jose Canseco is seemingly a sellout. I see how it works.

To his credit, he did use the word “seemingly”. Meaning anything can be said following that word. Doesn’t have to be true or accurate. Like:

Seemingly, Bartolo Colon is 950 lbs.

It’s sort of like saying “with all due respect” before you say something disrespectful.

And holy cow that Caveman sitcom flopped like a young pitcher under the guidance of Dusty Baker.

As for Lidge, he’s had about 5 full seasons…and was absolutely dominant in all but 1 of them.

He’s much more accomplished and less injury-prone than someone like Eric Gagne, who rarely gets criticized by the mainstream media.
