DMT, Rollins is one of the most popular guys in basball, both on the field and off. But you are right about Myers, he isn't the most popular guy outside of Philadelphia to say the least.

Mark, thanks for sharing. The left-handers of the Rockies scare me a bit, so Burrell and Rowand become very important in this series.

one of my most vivid memories as a yon teen evolving in north philadelphia was taking the subway down broad, then walking back into the neighborhood to catch the phillies at connie mack stadium during the legendary skid of '64.

there were plenty of seats dead behind beams, but they were prime. we were sitting on the stone steps between the sections of seats. the joint was jumpin...

i witnessed two of the 10 lost in a gut wrenching row. check this out! one of those, we watched the phillies lose 1-0 when a dude from the giants stole home.

the vibe of that season feels as real and fresh today, to me, as it did 43 years ago. the warning light is always just the briefest of gaps from illuminating in the back of my mind whenever any team i am rooting for, and there have been many, from baseball to volleyball, lots of volleyball, appears to be closing in on "sure victory". the'64 phillies were the master zen teachers of the "no sure" philosophy of competition.

at any rate, getting back to this millenium, the 2007 phillies are among my favorites. they seem to be way under the league minimum for a-holes, and they seem to actually appreciate and enjoy pulling down some serious dough, while playing some baseball.

this should be a great series with the rockies. two teams that appear to be on missions. tell that dude down at the shore who harvests that secret mud that they rub up the balls with to get out there and start scooping 24/7, because balls will be launching on an o'hare-like schedule at the bank and at coors.

It's a nice story and all, but please don't go so far as to call them a terribly likable bunch of guys. If Rollins was a Met, his team to beat stuff would be rubbed in his nose right now, and the next person who calls Brett Myers likable can have the first three letters of r-e-t-a-r-d spotted for him in a game of Idiot Hangman.

They're a fun team that fought like hell; thanks to the Padres-Rockies wild-card game and the NL being a blanket of 85 to 90 win teams, they are genuinely dangerous. Let's not go further than that, please.
